Planted

I planted grass in champagne glasses, five of them to be exact. Then I transplanted a little rose bush in a pot that I covered in fake moss.
And the grass grew. And nether the grass or the rose has died yet. And they're still growing.

Central Park

One of the things that I really wanted to do while in NY was feed pigeons in the park. You know, like they do in all the movies. I found a lonely pigeon and pulled out my crackers. It didn't take long before the word got out and the lonely pigeon was no longer lonely. Even several sparrows and a robin come to join the feast. I think I have a future in being a central park bag lady.

The park was one of our favorite places to visit. We're country folk, we need trees. Spending all day there would be far to easy.
The statues there are so wonderful.We ate hotdogs for lunch that we bought from a vendor, while watching New Yorkers doing there thing. We saw the Boat House restaurant. In the movie 27 Dresses they walk around the fountain we sat on and look across the lake at the Boat House, you can even see the hotdog vendor in the background of the movie. If we had known that beforehand we could have been weird tourists and acted out the scene.

I can't wait to go back.

We Took a Taxi...

...to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I could have spent all day there. So much art!! We decided to take the guided tour for the highlights of the museum. It was kinda a waist of time. The woman guiding out tour showed us some of the ugliest things there and then she talked about them for hours. The only thing she showed us that I really liked was Monet (there were several others that weren't bad). When the tour was over we went back to his work, they had close to fifty of his paintings. He is my favorite. We only stayed for three hours or so, so there was alot that we didn't see. Oh, how I love art!

Our First Stop

After we got off the train we made our way to the Empire State Building.The city don't look real from up there, it looked kinda flat. And the buildings seemed smaller than they should have been. If you look far in the distance you can see the Statue of Liberty. We didn't make it down that way to see her closer, but I have always thought that it was bigger than that.
They even plant trees on the top of the buildings.

Stifling Curiosity

It has been brought to my attention several times that I didn't tell why I was in New York City or who I was with. Well, my whole family (excepted Stephen) went with several families from our homeschool group. Our purpose was just to see the city. Like a big field trip. We drove down Monday morning and stayed at Camp Deerpark where the eldest daughter of one of the families works. Tuesday morning we drove to the train in Middletown and spent the whole day in the city. Wednesday morning we drove home.
We want to plan another trip to visit one of my favorite cousins who lives very close to the city. This trip was too short and we want to have lots of time to visit.

All Aboard

Well, I'm back from the big apple, New York City is so big. We had a wonderful time doing wonderful things, which I will share with you over the course of several posts (its too much to put in one). I'll start with our train ride. I've never been on a train before so it was exciting. We arrived at the station in Middletown a little before ten in the morning . We had to wait. Then the train pulled in. There was an elevated platform for me to use, however there was still a large gap between it and the train. They have this little ramp thing that they call the bridge plate to bridge the gap. It's scary, only having a thin piece of metal between you and the tracks. I held my breath on the way across. The conductor guy looked like a conductor, he even had the hole puncher. But he didn't yell all aboard when we got on, it was a little disappointing. At one point in our trip all the lights went out in the train, it was a little frightening, but as I looked around the everyday train riders didn't seem to notice or care so it must happen often. We caught our first glimpse of the city.We had to switch trains in Secaucus. It was a bigger train and a smoother ride. It travel either underground or in a tunnel so there wasn't much to see. When we exited the train we were under the city. As I recall the elevator up smelled really bad.
We then stepped into the city.

NYC

I'm going to New York City!!! I'm leaving today and wont be back till Wednesday so be ready for amazing posts. Bye.

Hidden

We knew that she was somewhere in the barn but it took us a week to find her. She has made a nest in our barn for years but its always in the beams, this is new. Well, Samantha won't be riding her bike anytime soon.

She is safe and hidden here. I'll make sure that I get pictures of her little babies when they hatch.
