Update

So I have slacked on my learning to cook spasm (why spasm is spelled this way eludes me). The Danial fast has knocked me off coarse. I am having trouble cooking weird food so I have not cooked anything in a week. We are done on Monday.
...
On other news, our foster babies went home to their mother. Its bittersweet. Things are much quieter now, however I do miss my alarm clock.

Work has picked up pace after the "after Christmas loll". I have been painting as fast as I can to get the orders for our new patters done. The shamrock-

And Mardi Gras-
We don't have any inventory on these patters so every order is a rush order.

Not Bad

So the Daniel diet has not been too bad so far. But it seems to have gotten harder on this last week. I am hunger for chocolate cake. The food itself isn't bad, I must say that I am enjoying some of the things mom is coming up with. Today, however, we are all sick of tomatoes. Would someone please give my a taco. These are some of the dishes that have been the best so far: Stuffed peppers on brown rice. Note about brown rice: it is really yummy. Almost better than white rice.
Vegetable Paella. Also good wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. Paella has a good story about how it got its name that I will tell you.
. . .
In fifteenth-century Spain during a period of great hardship, families had very little food. So when marriages took place, everyone brought a little food to "add to the pot" for the meal provided by the bride's family. The offerings were a little rice, a few vegetables, some chicken, or whatever the family could give. The wedding guests would hand over their donation to the bride's parents by saying, "Por ella," which means " for her," meaning "This is for the bride." All the goods were combined into one large pan and everyone ate!
Veggie burgers. We topped ours with potatoes, green peppers, and mushrooms. If I can recall I added alot of salt. Thank goodness for salt. We have one week left.

The Plant

Today I felt the random desire to tell you the story of our house plant. This plant goes way back, back to when we lived in Salamanca. It all began with a trip to Grandma's house twelve years ago ( or close to that) . It was a mothers day and Spencer and Pap went out surveying. I don't remember all of this part but Spencer was very excited about going because Pap was going to pay him. Anyway, on their was home after several hours of surveying the land, they had to stop at the store for something or other. Spencer used the money he made to buy the plant. It was a little thing in a little hand held pot. The plant came home with us and it sat in a cereal bowl on top of the microwave for years. We watered it all the while thinking it was a spider plant. When we moved, nine years ago, the plant got to come along. We gave it a new pot and it got bigger. It was not longer thought to be a spider plant, now we thought it was a corn plant. Over the years the plant transferred to bigger pots and continued to get bigger. Now we have not idea what kind of plant it is. We looked up corn plants and this doesn't look like a corn plant. Not to long ago the plant fell over because it had gotten to big for its own good. Maybe a new pot is in order. I wonder if we put it into smaller pots if it would shrink? I like our plant.

In the Name of Sacrifice

I must remind myself that I am doing this for God.

Behind the Couch

We took Christmas down this week. It is a sad thing. Our tree is now outside for the birds, I'm sure they like it. And with the removing of Christmas decorations comes the cleaning of the living room.
From underwear to turkey calls. You never know what you will find behind the couch.

First of the Year

My first painting of 2011. I think I will call it "A Walk in Winter" because it sounds kind of magical.

Our church is doing a corporate Danial fast to see what God has in store for us in the new year. We started yesterday. I miss milk. This morning I had apple pie oat meal for breakfast. Its not as good as it sounds. 20 days to go.

Yummy Cubed Potatoes

I don't know what they are really called but that will do. My first lesson, not hard, but I have to start somewhere. Because I take pictures of everything, I documented the whole process. So I will tell you how to do it, if you feel the need to cook.

First: Wash your potatoes, they don't get pealed.

Second: Cut your potatoes into cubes

Third: Cover (and I mean really cover) the bottom of your skillet in veggie oil

Fourth: chop a onion and add to skillet. Turn the stove on, stir
onion and oil.

Fifth: If you haven't finished chopping your potatoes, do that now.

Sixth: Add potatoes to skillet, stir.

Seventh: stir in your choice of seasonings. I used garlic powder, thyme, salt, and a parmesan garlic mix thing.

Eighth: cover and stir occasionally

Ninth: when the potatoes are soft or however you like them cooked, remove from skillet and put um in a bowl.
Ten: enjoy

Resolution

This is my first post of the year! Happy 2011 everyone. I figured that if I posted my new years resolution That I might actually do it. So my resolution for the new year is to:
learn how to cook

I think that I could do it, I don't think it will be to hard. And I have never managed to burn water yet so the odds are in my favor.
